Monthly Google Ads spend

Read-only access, no card, no sales call. The report arrives whether or not we ever speak.

What gets looked at

Seven things, in this order.

1. What you are losing, and to what. Impression share lost to budget is a different problem from impression share lost to rank, and they have opposite fixes. Most accounts are never told which one they have.

2. Whether the account has been modernised. Ad formats Google froze years ago still run in a surprising number of accounts, alongside bidding that has not been revisited since it was set up.

3. Whether conversions mean anything. If every conversion counts as one, and the values are placeholders, the account cannot tell a quote request from a sale, and neither can its bidding.

4. What Performance Max is actually doing with the budget it has been given, and whether it is buying demand you were already getting for free.

5. Match types and negatives, which is where most wasted spend lives and where the quickest savings usually are.

6. The landing pages, because an account can be run perfectly and still fail if the page it points at was built for somebody else.

7. Whether ads are the right spend at all. Sometimes they are not, and you will be told so in writing.

What we usually find

The same four things, in accounts everybody assumed were fine.

None of these are exotic. They turn up in accounts run by competent people, on budgets that look healthy from the outside, which is exactly why nobody had gone looking.

EVERY SEARCH YOUR ADS ALREADY MATCH Shown You paid for this Lost to budget The ads matched. The money ran out. Lost to rank A different problem These two look identical in a monthly report.
One of those is solved by spending more and the other by fixing the account. Treat them the same and the budget is wasted twice. Proportions here are illustrative; yours are in the report, which is the point of having one.
  1. Funding a fraction of its own demand Campaigns showing for a small share of searches they already match, losing the rest to budget rather than relevance. The ads were right. The money simply ran out.
  2. Never modernised Legacy ad formats and fully manual bidding on accounts spending six figures a year. The tools that would lift results sitting unused rather than misused.
  3. Unable to see itself Every signup counted as one, with placeholder values, in a business where the two things being counted are worth wildly different amounts.
  4. Buying the wrong growth Spend going to the side of the business that was never the constraint, because nothing in the account distinguished the two.

The useful output of an audit is rarely a clever tactic. It is usually a structural problem nobody had named, and a reframing of what the spend is actually for.

How it works

Three steps, and you can stop after the second.

  1. Ask, and grant read-only access The form takes two minutes. Access takes about one, and can be removed whenever you like. We can see performance; we cannot change or spend anything.
  2. A written report within 48 hours What is wrong, in order, naming the campaigns and settings in your own account. Yours to keep, act on yourself, or hand to whoever currently runs it.
  3. Only if you want it, we run it Four tiers from £500 a month, set by your spend. No minimum term and thirty days' notice either way.

The guarantee

Pay monthly. Thirty days' notice, either way.

Every month is paid up front. If at any point you do not feel what is being delivered is worth at least three times your monthly fee, say so and we stop. No minimum term, no cancellation fee, and nothing to argue your way out of.

The thirty days is there so work can start on the strength of the next month rather than stall before every renewal date. You get a month of work instead of a month of waiting. It is notice, not lock-in.

Everything built for you is yours to keep, to run yourself or hand to another provider.

We have to earn your business every month. That is the deal.

Most agencies lock you in with twelve-month terms and make leaving slow on purpose. We do not. Thirty days is the notice, there is no minimum term, and if what we are doing is not worth several times what you pay for it you should not have to argue your way out of a contract to stop. And if it is worth it, you will want to carry on anyway.

Questions

The ones worth asking before you grant access.

Is it really free, and what is the catch?

It is free and there is no catch worth the name. You get a written report whether or not you ever speak to us. The honest commercial reason is that a good audit is the most persuasive sales material there is, and roughly half the businesses who ask for one decide they can act on it themselves. That is a fair trade.

What access do you need?

Read-only access to the Google Ads account, which takes about a minute to grant and can be removed at any time. We can see performance and settings, and we cannot change a bid, pause a campaign or spend a penny. If you would rather not grant access at all, say so and the review is done from what is publicly visible instead, which is narrower but still useful.

How long does it take?

The written report comes back within 48 hours of access being granted. There is no call to sit through to get it, and nobody will ring you unless you ask.

What will the report actually tell me?

Where the money is going that should not be, where demand exists that you are not buying, and the three things worth fixing first in order. It names settings, campaigns and figures from your own account rather than giving general advice, because general advice about Google Ads is free everywhere and worth what it costs.

My agency already sends me a monthly report. Why would I need this?

A monthly report tells you what happened. An audit tells you what is structurally wrong, which is a different question and one an incumbent agency is poorly placed to answer about its own work. If your agency is doing a good job, the audit will say so, and that is worth knowing too.

What if the account is small?

Small accounts are often the ones where an audit changes most, because a single wrong setting is a larger share of a small budget. Below roughly £500 a month the honest answer is sometimes that ads are not your best next move, and the report will say that rather than selling you management.

Do I have to use you afterwards?

No. The report is yours, written so somebody else could act on it. If you do want the work done, management is four tiers from £500 a month and the tier is set by your spend rather than by what we would like to charge.

Who does the audit?

Peter Fraher, with twenty-three years in paid media. Not a junior analyst running a template over your account, and not a tool that generates a PDF of scores.

The next step

Find out what it is really doing.

Two minutes to ask, one to grant access, and a written report back within 48 hours. If the honest answer is that your account is in good shape, that is what the report will say.
